Nicolas Burq (born November 30, 1966 ) is a French mathematician who studies partial differential equations.

Burq studied from 1986 to 1990 at the École normal supérieure with the DEA degree in 1988 with Michèle Vergne and the Agrégation in 1989. From 1991 he was Chargé des Recherches at the CNRS . In 1992 he received his doctorate under Gilles Lebeau at the University of Paris XI ( Controle de l'equation des plaques en présence d'obstacles strictement convexes ). In 1996 he became Maitre des conferences (part-time) at the École polytechnique and completed his habilitation in 1997 at the University of Paris XI, where he became professor in 1998.

In his dissertation and other publications, he dealt with the control of partial differential equations (i.e. boundary conditions under which the system described by the equations is in equilibrium) and further with the nonlinear Schrödinger equation, scattering theory and eigenvalues of the Laplace operator (partly in connection with quantum chaos ), partial differential equations with random initial conditions. In addition to Lebeau, he worked with Nikolay Tzvetkov , Patrick Gérard and Maciej Zworski , among others .

In 2002/2003 he was Miller Professor at the University of California, Berkeley and from 2004 he was a junior member of the Institut Universitaire de France.

He is married and has three children.
