Center International de Rencontres Mathématiques

The Center International de Rencontres Mathématiques (CIRM) is a mathematical research institute located in Luminy on the outskirts of Marseille in France and connected to the University of Aix-Marseille . The Center national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS) and the Société Mathématique de France (SMF) are sponsors . At the CIRM, there are weekly conferences with around 70 people on various mathematical sub-areas.

As early as 1954, a CNRS report discussed a possible location for a mathematical research institute. The site previously belonged to the Fabre shipping company and was handed over to SMF in 1979. The institute opened in 1981 and the first conferences took place in 1982.
