Benito Raman (born November 7, 1994 in Ghent ) is a Belgian football player . He is under contract with FC Schalke 04 .

Career

society

During his childhood and youth, Benito Raman played for Cercle Melle and SK Munkzwalm before moving to the youth department of KAA Gent . The center forward with Spanish ancestors made his 1st division debut for Gent on September 11, 2011 against SV Zulte Waregem (1: 3). The club was represented in the top third of the table in Belgium, but Raman could not fight for a regular place in the club, so he came to only ten missions in a year and a half. In the winter transfer period of the 2012/13 season, he then switched to Beerschot AC on loan . Raman scored three goals in seven league games; Beerschot AC had to go into the relegation round ("Play-off III - Degraditie (Best-of-five)") and despite two hits from Benito Raman, the club was defeated in the comparison Cercle Bruges and thus rose from the 1st division. For the 2013/14 season, KAA Gent awarded him to KV Kortrijk . With the club Raman moved in the middle of the table and finally qualified eighth for the play-offs for participation in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League . During the regular season he played 23 games and scored three goals. In the play-offs he contributed with a goal to reach the finals, in which KV Kortrijk was defeated by SV Zulte-Waregem . In the cup competition, the club was eliminated in the quarter-finals after a penalty shoot-out against its home club KAA Gent, with Raman playing in three games during the competition and scoring a goal in the quarter-final second leg.

For the new season he returned to KAA Gent and initially fought for a regular place, but only sat on the bench in some games or was not taken into account. In 24 games in the regular season, he scored seven goals and qualified for the championship round. Up to and including fifth place, KAA Gent was second in the table, but after a 1-0 win in the away game against KV Kortrijk on matchday six, they took the lead and became champions in the end. Raman contributed one goal in seven games. In the Belgian Cup, he and his club were eliminated in the semi-finals against RSC Anderlecht , where he was used in four games and scored one goal. In the season after the championship Benito Raman lost his regular place, but played for the first time in the UEFA Champions League , where he came to four appearances in the group stage, in the Belgian Cup competition he played twice, each with one goal. After he insulted fans of Club Bruges with the words " Alle boeren zijn homo " ( Eng . All farmers are gay ) in a game against KV Kortrijk towards the end of 2015 , he was suspended from his club and banned by the Belgian Football Association (KBVB). During the winter transfer period of the 2015/16 season, Benito Raman switched to VV St. Truiden on loan . By the end of regular time he came to six missions; VV St. Truiden qualified for the play-off round to participate in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League, where they finished last in Group B. Raman scored a goal in four games.

He then returned to KAA Gent, but in July 2016 he joined Standard Liège for four years . Here he was used in the UEFA Europa League , with the Liège knocking out third in a group with Celta Vigo , Ajax Amsterdam and Panathinaikos Athens . Benito Raman had come to five games and one goal. In the cup, Standard Liège was eliminated from fourth division ASV Geel, with Raman scoring a goal in the 2-1 defeat. In the league game, Standard Liège did not get past ninth place in the regular season and missed qualifying for the international competition with fourth place in Group A in the play-offs for participation in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League. Benito Raman had four goals in 21 games in the regular season, in the play-offs he came to four games without hits.

On August 31, 2017, Fortuna Düsseldorf loaned it for one year with an option to buy. He made his debut with the second division on August 10, 2017 against Union Berlin. On January 22, 2018, the loan was extended by one year until the end of the 2018/19 season while maintaining the purchase option. This was drawn early in March 2018 and Raman signed with Fortuna until 2022.

At the end of the 2017/18 season , Raman was promoted to the Bundesliga with Düsseldorf. In the following season 2018/19 he scored 10 goals in 30 Bundesliga appearances for the Düsseldorf team.

For the 2019/20 season, Raman moved within the Bundesliga to FC Schalke 04 , where he signed a contract until 2024. On matchday 12 of the 2019/2020 season, he scored his first Bundesliga goal for Schalke 04 in a 2-1 away win against Werder Bremen.

National team

At the end of August 2019, Raman was nominated by coach Roberto Martínez for the first time for the Belgian national team as part of the qualifying matches for the Euro 2020 and made his first appearance on 9 September 2019 in the 4-0 away win against Scotland as a substitute.
