Heinz Faulstich

Heinz Reinhold Faulstich (born October 25, 1927 in Aschaffenburg , † June 10, 2014 in Konstanz ) was a German psychiatrist and psychotherapist . He did research on the history of psychiatry , particularly starvation in psychiatry.

Live and act

Heinz Faulstich was born on October 25, 1927 in Aschaffenburg. He was the son of the master baker Leo Faulstich and his wife Katharina, geb. Naumann. As a high school student, he was drafted as an air force helper , worker and soldier for two years . He was wounded and taken prisoner. He then completed a six-month war participant course at the secondary school in Aschaffenburg and passed his Abitur there in 1946. In spring 1947 he began to study medicine at the Philosophical-Theological University in Bamberg , first moving to Erlangen , then to Tübingen , where he passed the state examination in 1952 and received his doctorate in 1953 with a psychological work on the composer Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis . He trained as a specialist in the USA, Switzerland and Germany, worked at various clinics, among others. a. At the end of the 1950s under Ernst Kretschmer at the University Psychiatric Clinic in Tübingen , and completed a training analysis . In 1969 he came to the Reichenau State Psychiatric Hospital , where he was deputy director from 1973 to 1990.

Heinz Faulstich researched the history of psychiatry, especially the Nazi era . He supported patients in procedures for their previous forced sterilization and was involved in the erection of a memorial for the victims of Nazi psychiatry at the Reichenau State Hospital, financed by a group of employees.
