Malick Thiaw (born August 8, 2001 in Düsseldorf ) is a Finnish football player born and raised in Germany . The central defender is under contract with FC Schalke 04 .

Career

The son of a Senegalese father and a Finnish mother was born and raised in Düsseldorf, but has only Finnish citizenship. He began playing soccer at the Düsseldorf district association TV Kalkum-Wittlaer and moved from there to Fortuna Düsseldorf . He came to FC Schalke 04 as a C-youth through the Bayer 04 Leverkusen and Borussia Mönchengladbach junior performance centers, and subsequently played regularly in their U17 and U19 teams. In the 2018/19 season , the central defender made it as a regular with Schalke to the second round of the junior cup and the semi-finals of the championship finals. There you had to admit defeat to the future champions and arch-rivals Borussia Dortmund . Born in Düsseldorf, he played all group games in the UEFA Youth League , but was eliminated with the team.

During the winter break of the 2019/20 Bundesliga season, Thiaw took part in the professional team's training camp and was in the squad for the first time in early 2020 in the 0: 1 against FC Bayern Munich in the DFB Cup quarter-finals .
