Frank Nordhausen (born June 5, 1956 in Berlin ) is a German journalist and book author. He lives and works as a freelance foreign correspondent in Nicosia , Cyprus .

Life

Nordhausen studied philosophy, history and German at the Free University of Berlin . After completing his studies in 1986, he worked as a freelance journalist, a. a. for Die Zeit , Stern , Der Spiegel , Woche , Wochenpost and taz . From 1996 to 2011 he was editor and reporter for the Berliner Zeitung in the section "Page 3" and reported from Kosovo , Turkey , Romania , Egypt , Syria and Iraq .

From 2000 he also wrote biographies about politics and everyday life in the Balkans, the Middle East, the Amazon and New Guinea. From 2009 he reported as a reporter from Cairo on the Arab Revolution, from 2011 as a permanent foreign correspondent in Istanbul for the Berliner Zeitung , the Frankfurter Rundschau and the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger . From 2011 to 2019 he wrote the weblog "Greetings from the Bosporus". Nordhausen had to leave Turkey in 2017. Since then he has lived in Nicosia and reports as a freelance foreign correspondent for German and English-language media on the eastern Mediterranean, including for the Turkish-exile online editorial team ahvalnews.com .

He became known in 1991 through his research on the Scientology organization and its activities in East Germany. In 1993 his book The Sect Group was published. Scientology on the advance (with Liane von Billerbeck ). In 2012, ARTE and in the first broadcast the documentary he and Markus Thöß made, The Scientology Spy - The Sect Secret Service OSA .

Since studying German, Nordhausen has been researching the life and work of the mysterious writer B. Traven . Nordhausen was a co-founder and first chairman of the International B. Traven Society. He has published scientific articles about B. Traven, including the writer's origins. An analysis of the dialect coloring of Traven on original tape recordings from Mexico, which had been discovered in 1999, found Nordhausen to be able to prove that Traven came from northern Germany, while other researchers believe that B. Traven was the son of a brickmaker who grew up in eastern Germany.

Nordhausen is the grandson of the Berlin journalist and writer Richard Nordhausen .
