Ryan Donk (born March 30, 1986 in Amsterdam ) is a Dutch football player . Seti January 2016, the defender is under contract with the Turkish first division club Galatasaray Istanbul . The Dutchman was loaned to Betis Sevilla for the 2016/17 season. His style of play is often compared to that of former Dutch international Jaap Stam .
Career
society
Donk played his first professional season in the 2005/06 season with the RKC Waalwijk . He played seven games that season and drew the attention of a few Dutch clubs such as Ajax Amsterdam , PSV Eindhoven and AZ Alkmaar. But also top European teams like FC Barcelona showed interest in him. The final bid was then awarded to AZ, where Donk succeeded Joris Mathijsen . Alkmaar had signed the defensive player, but wanted to loan him to his former club RKC Waalwijk, where he should gain more practical experience. Donk resisted this idea and wanted to face the new task. At first mainly on the bench, he surprised the AZ officials especially in the second half of the 2006/07 season. In his first year with the Red-Whites, he took third place. Although he completed more games in his second season at Alkmaar than in the previous year, Donk was loaned to West Bromwich Albion in England for the 2008/09 season . For the 2009/10 season he left Alkmaar for good and moved to Club Bruges.
In the summer of 2013 he moved to the Turkish Süper Lig at Kasımpaşa Istanbul . For Kasımpaşa Donk played 75 league games and scored 11 goals. On January 5, 2016, his transfer to Galatasaray Istanbul was officially announced. The traditional Turkish club paid a transfer fee of 2.5 million euros.
Just before the end of the summer transfer period, Donk was loaned to Betis Sevilla .
National team
In the summer of 2007, Foppe de Haan appointed him to the Dutch squad for the U21 European Championship in the Netherlands. In the first two games against the selection of Israel and Portugal , Donk was in the starting line-up. With the first two victories, the team qualified for the 2008 Summer Olympics and reached the semi-finals of the European Championship. The semi-final against England (1: 1 a.s.) was won 13:12 on penalties . Donk was the only Dutch player who did not take part in the penalty shoot-out. After the game, Donk shows a t-shirt that says "Dit toernooi is voor jou, ik hou van je." (German: "This tournament is dedicated to you. I love you"), which was intended for his sister who was involved in a car accident during the tournament. The final was won 4-1 against Serbia and the Netherlands became U21 European champions for the second time.
