Younès Belhanda ( Arabic يونس بلهندة, DMG Yūnus Bilhanda ; *  February 25, 1990 in Avignon in the Vaucluse department , France ) is a Moroccan - French football player . The attacking midfielder is under contract with Galatasaray Istanbul . He plays for the Moroccan national team .

Club career

Beginnings in France

Belhanda, the son of Moroccan parents, was born in Avignon and grew up near Aramon . He has five siblings. Belhanda started playing soccer at RC Aramonais . After a year he moved to the youth team at MJC Avignon . He played for the southern French for five years. He then moved to the youth department of HSC Montpellier in 2003 .

HSC Montpellier

At HSC Montpellier, he went through all youth teams. From the 2009/10 season he was part of the professional squad. On August 8, 2009, Belhanda made his first appearance in Ligue 1 on the starting grid against Paris Saint-Germain . On September 19, 2009, the sixth match day, he scored his first competitive goal in the 4-2 defeat against Olympique Marseille . It should be his only goal this season. He made his debut in the Coupe de la Ligue on September 23, 2009 against RC Lens . At the end of this season he made 33 appearances in the league, in which he succeeded in addition to one goal and four assists. HSC Montpellier qualified for the Europa League .

The 2011/12 season should be Belhanda's strongest season by then. In 28 league games he scored twelve goals and prepared six more goals. On February 8, 2012, he made his first cup goal in the round of 16 of the French Football Cup in the game against LB Châteauroux . On April 11, 2012, the 30th matchday, he scored twice against Olympique Marseille for the first time. He won the French championship with HSC Montpellier in 2012. This season he was voted Ligue 1's Young Player of the Year. However, he missed several games this season due to two red cards .

In the 2012/13 season Belhanda played for the first time in the Champions League . He was used in all six group games in which he scored two goals. In the group with FC Arsenal , FC Schalke 04 and Olympiacos Piraeus , HSC Montpellier was eliminated from the bottom of the group. Belhanda made 30 appearances in the league. With ten goals and five preparations, he was again one of the strongest players in the squad.

Dynamo Kiev

In July 2013 he moved to the Ukrainian record champions Dynamo Kiev . He played his first game on July 14, 2013, the first match day of the 2013/14 season , in a 1-1 draw against Volyn Lutsk . He made his first goal on August 4, 2013, the fourth matchday, in the game against Shakhtar Donetsk . Belhanda contributed to the successful qualification for the Europa League with a goal and an assist against FK Aqtöbe . In the 2014/15 season Dynamo lost in the final of the Supercup against Shakhtar Donetsk, but Dynamo won the championship and defended the Ukrainian Football Cup by beating Shakhtar. Dynamo Kiev reached the quarter-finals of the Europa League , where they were eliminated from Fiorentina . Across all competitions, Belhanda scored four goals in 41 competitive games and prepared eight more.

In the first half of the 2015/16 season, Belhanda was only used in 14 of 22 competitive games in the league, cup and Champions League and was mostly not in the starting line-up. He did not score a goal, only two assists were recorded.

FC Schalke 04

On January 6, 2016, Belhanda moved to the Bundesliga for FC Schalke 04 on loan until the end of the 2015/16 season . He made his first league appearance on January 24, 2016, when he came on as a substitute for Max Meyer in the 60th minute in a 3-1 home defeat by Werder Bremen on matchday 18 . He scored his first Bundesliga goal on February 12, 2016 (21st match day) in a 2-1 defeat in the away game against 1. FSV Mainz 05 with the goal to make it 1-1 in the 46th minute.

OGC Nice

For the 2016/17 season , Belhanda was awarded to the French first division club OGC Nice . With coach Lucien Favre's team , he finished third in the Ligue 1 table at the end of the season.

Galatasaray Istanbul

On June 30, 2017, Belhanda signed a four-year contract with Galatasaray Istanbul . In his first season for Galatasaray, Belhanda made 35 appearances, scored three goals and set up ten goals. He was also the Turkish champion of the 2017/18 season.

National team

Belhanda made four appearances for the French U-20 national team in 2010 , but then decided to play for the Moroccan national team in the future . On November 17, 2010, he came in the friendly against Northern Ireland for his first international appearance. With Morocco he took part in the Africa Cups in 2012 and 2013 . In 2017 he was absent due to a broken toe. At the Africa Cup of 2012, he scored his first international goal in a 1-0 win against Niger . He was also in Morocco's squad for the 2018 World Cup . After a 2-2 draw against Spain and two 0-1 defeats against Portugal and Iran , Morocco was the last in Group B to be eliminated from the tournament. Belhanda was used in all three games.
