Arsuz ( Ottoman أرسوز) is a coastal city with 90,456 inhabitants (2018) and has been a district of the southern Turkish province of Hatay since 2014 . Before that, Arsuz belonged to the İskenderun district .

geography

Arsuz is located about 40 km south-southwest of İskenderun on the Mediterranean coast and just under 120 km northwest of the provincial capital Antakya at the foot of the Amanos Dağları . The Syrian border town of Kessab is 54.7 km as the crow flies and 105 kilometers by road. The Arsuz nehir River flows through the village from south to north , and a bridge spans it just before its mouth.

history

Remains from the Hellenistic and Roman times were found in the ancient port city.
