Efrain Alvarez (born June 19, 2002 in Los Angeles , California ) is an American - Mexican football player in the position of midfielder .

Club career

The Mexican-born Efrain Alvarez was born on June 19, 2002 in the metropolis of Los Angeles in the US state of California. In 2016 he joined the academy of the major league soccer franchise LA Galaxy and was active in the academy teams U-13 / U-14 and U-15 / U-16 in the 2015/16 season. For the U-13 / U-14 team, he scored 25 goals in 20 competitive matches (18 + 2); for the U-15 / U-16 team, he scored two goals in twelve competitive games (9 + 3). In the following season of 2016/17 he alternated between the U-15 / U-16 team and the U-17 / U-18 team, with most of the players in the latter team being three years older than himself. In 12 appearances (9 + 3) for the U-15 / U-16, he scored seven goals; in his total of 14 games (11 + 3) for the U-17 / U-18 he scored twelve goals. He also belonged to the U-14 squad, in which he was not used in 2016/17.

On August 2, 2017, at the age of 15 years, one month and 14 days, he became the youngest player to ever sign a contract in the United Soccer League (USL), the second highest North American soccer league. So far, this record has been held by Alphonso Davies , who was 15 years, three months and three days old at the time of his first professional contract in February 2016. The youngest LA Galaxy II player to date with a professional contract was Eric López in November 2014, who was 15 years and eight months old at the time; At that time he was the youngest player with a professional contract in the history of the USL. After he sat unused on the bench for the first time in the championship game against San Antonio FC on September 9, 2017 , Mike Muñoz replaced him on October 7, 2017 as the youngest player in the history of the United Soccer League. National team career

In 2016 Alvarez was used for four different junior national teams. Among other things, he took part in the Rimini Cup in Germany with the Mexican U-15 national team in June 2016 and was still a member of the Mexican U-14 national team in September. Furthermore, he was for some time in the squad of the US U-14 and U-15 selections. With the second-named team, he won the International Festival of Fútbol in Argentina in April 2016 under coach Dave van den Bergh and was a frequent goal scorer himself.
