GCOM-C ( Global Change Observation Mission - Climate , Shikisai ( Japanese し き さ い 'coloring' ), GCOM-C1) is an earth observation satellite of the Japanese JAXA .

He was on 23 December 2017 an H-IIA - carrier rocket from the rocket launch site Tanegashima Space Center along with SLATS placed in a sun-synchronous orbit.

The three-axis stabilized satellite is equipped with various cameras and is intended to investigate the distribution of aerosols, water vapor and clouds in the atmosphere as well as to monitor the color and temperature of the oceans, the snow and ice cover on land, as well as the vegetation and land use.

The Second-Generation Global Imager (SGLI) is a 400 kilogram camera that takes images of the earth in the visible and infrared range with resolutions between 250 and 1,000 meters. It is a successor to the Global Imager Instrument (GLI) aboard the ADEOS-II satellite , which was launched in December 2002 but ceased operations only ten months later after its power system failed. SGLI consists of two radiometers : Visible Near Infrared (VNIR) and Infrared Scanner (IRS), the former covering near UV, visible light and near infrared (375 to 878.5 nm in 13 channels and a swath width of 1150 km) , while the latter works in the middle infrared part of the spectrum (1050 to 2210 nm and 10.8 to 12.0 µm in 6 channels and a swath width of 1400 km). It has a planned lifespan of five years.
