Corryocactus melanotrichus is a species of plant in the genus Corryocactus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet melanotrichus means 'black-haired, black-haired'.

description

Corryocactus melanotrichus grows shrubby, is richly branched and forms small groups with heights of up to 4 meters. The upright yellowish green shoots have a diameter of up to 6 centimeters. There are seven to nine low ribs . The ten to 15 awl, unequal, initially light yellow to brown thorns turn gray later. They are 0.7 to 2 inches long. The longest of them reaches a length of up to 3 centimeters.

The slightly purple flowers are up to 5 centimeters long and 6 centimeters in diameter. The spherical, soft, thorny fruits reach a diameter of 6 centimeters.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Corryocactus melanotrichus is common in the Bolivian departments of La Paz , Chuquisaca , Cochabamba , Oruro and Tarija .

It was first described as Cereus melanotrichus in 1981 by Karl Moritz Schumann . Nathaniel Lord Britton and Joseph Nelson Rose put the species in the genus Corryocactus in 1920 . A nomenclature synonym is Erdisia melanotricha (K.Schum.) Backeb. (1936).

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
