InterLiga
The InterLiga is a competition in Mexican club football .
In 2004 Mexico got two fixed starting places for the Copa Libertadores , in 2005 another qualifying place.
Since the CONCACAF Champions League takes place at the same time as the Copa Libertadores , through which the Mexican teams can qualify for the FIFA Club World Cup , the first fixed starting place since 2009 is guaranteed to the winner of the regular season of the Apertura of the previous year.
In January, during the break of the Primera División de México , the other eight best teams of the past Apertura will play for the other two starting places - with the exception of the teams that are already participating or have participated in the current Champions League.
The game is currently played according to the following mode:
The games are played
in two groups of four teams on a neutral pitch, which is why the games are played in California and Texas (in 2005 also in Arizona ), states of the USA with a large Mexican population.
In two “finals”, the first group play against the second group in the other group. The winning team with the better statistics in the group stage is awarded the second fixed starting place, the other winning team has to go to the preliminary round.
