Hazell Dean
Hazell Dean (* 27. October 1952 in Chelmsford , Essex , England as Hazeldean Poole ) is a British singer , songwriter and record producer .
biography
Hazell Dean began her singing career in the 1970s - initially as when she was born as "Hazel Dean" with an "L". Her first single was released in 1975. A year later she entered the preliminary round of the Eurovision Song Contest with the dramatic ballad I Couldn't Live Without You for a Day . She only reached eighth place out of twelve participants. In April 1984 she tried again with a ballad. Stay in My Life only landed on seventh and penultimate place in the British preliminary round for the Eurovision Song Contest .
In July 1983 - Hazell was now written with a double-L on publications - her single Searchin ' hit the UK charts and initially only reached number 76. After Evergreen / Jealous Love rose to number 64 in the UK charts in February 1984, the Searchin 'returned to the charts in April of that year and finally made it to number 6. In the same year, Dean was named "Best Hi-NRG Artist of the Year" by Record Mirror magazine .
Her single Whatever I Do (Wherever I Go) , one of the first titles produced by the hit factory Stock Aitken Waterman , reached number four in the British charts in July 1984 and shortly afterwards number 22 in the German charts . This was followed by smaller chart successes in Great Britain with No Fool (For Love) and They Say It's Gonna Rain (1985), ESP (Extra Sensual Persuasion) and Stand Up (1986) and Always Doesn't Mean Forever (1987).
It wasn't until 1988 that Dean was able to build on the success of Searchin ' and Whatever I Do. A cover version of the Anne Murray -title Who's Leaving Who brought her in March 1988. again a fourth place in the UK charts and became the biggest hit Deans in Germany, where the song reached 15th. Maybe (We Should Call It a Day) made it into the UK Top 20 in June.
Although singles appeared again and again in the following years, there was no longer any major commercial success. Worth mentioning are Turn It into Love , which rose to number 21 in the UK in 1988, and Love Pains , a 1979 cover version of the song by Yvonne Elliman , which climbed to number 48 there in 1989. In the USA, the musician only got a few hits in the dance charts.
Dean later produced and composed songs for Bad Boys Inc. , Miquel Brown ( It's a Sin ), MEN 2 B ( Love Satisfaction ) and Upside Down. There were also appearances as a background singer, B. for Samantha Janus at the Eurovision Song Contest 1991 in Rome.
