Miquel Brown

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Miquel Brown (born Michael Brown on February 8, 1945 in Montreal , Québec , Canada ) is an American singer and actress .

biography

Michael Brown changed her first name to Miquel in order not to be mistaken for a man. However, this only worked to a limited extent because she looked very masculine with her short haircut at the time . On later albums, the singer wore a more feminine hairstyle to leave no doubt about her gender.

Brown's parents wanted their daughter to become a doctor, but couldn't get her way because Miquel was drawn into the entertainment industry. Unbeknownst to her mother and father, she went to nightclubs, dropped out of medical school at the University of Washington , and never continued.

After an audition in Detroit, Miquel Brown got the role of Sheila in the musical Hair . A tour of the United States followed. In the early 1970s she moved to Great Britain, where Brown worked as a singer and took on minor roles in films ( Rollerball ) and musicals ( The Best Little Whorehouse , Starlight Express ). Her first album, Symphony of Love , got her attention in the late 1970s.

Together with producer Ian Levine ( Evelyn Thomas - High Energy ), the single So Many Men, So Little Time was created , which made it into the charts. The titles He's a Saint, He's a Sinner , Black Leather and Close to Perfection also achieved placements in various hit parades. Other singles, such as I Was Strong (My Moment) (1990), could not build on the old successes.

Miquel Brown has a daughter, Sinitta , who enjoyed success as a pop singer in the 1980s.
