The Fatback Band , from 1977 only Fatback , is an American funk and disco band. Her King Tim III (Personality Jock) , released in late July 1979, is considered the first rap song to be released on a record.
background
The Fatback Band was formed in 1970 in New York City based on a concept by Bill Curtis . Curtis, an experienced drummer , wanted to combine the "fatback jazz beats" from New Orleans in a funk band. Fatback sees itself as one of the last dance and entertainment bands and says:
"Before DJ's existed, it was them [the bands] who were making people dance ..."
"Before there were DJs , it was they [the bands] who got people dancing ..."
