Paul Hamilton Williams, Jr. (born September 19, 1940 in Omaha , Nebraska , USA ) is an American composer , musician , singer , songwriter and actor . He is known from the 1970s, in which he composed or co-composed timeless songs for example for Three Dog Night An Old Fashioned Love Song , for Helen Reddy You and Me Against the World , for David Bowie Fill Your Heart or for Carpenters We ' ve Only Just Begun and Rainy Days and Mondays .

Life

Paul Williams won the Academy Award ( Oscar ), the Golden Globe and the Grammy in 1977 (again in 1980). In 2001 he was inducted into the American Songwriter's Hall of Fame and has served as President of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) since 2009 .

Best known are Paul Williams' compositions from the films The Last Bite the Dogs ( Where Do I Go From Here ), A Star Is Born ( Evergreen - Love Song from A Star Is Born ), The Muppet Movie ( The Rainbow Connection ) and The Secret of NIMH ( Flying Dreams - sung by Williams, composed by Jerry Goldsmith). In addition to film appearances in The Muppet Movie and as Little Enos in the Burt Reynolds blockbuster A Boiled Rascal , Williams was a guest star in various television series such as Hawaii Five-O , The Love Boat and Star Trek: Voyager .

For Daft Punk Williams co-wrote two pieces for the 2013 released album Random Access Memories participated on which he also titled Touch sings.

Paul Williams was married to Kate Clinton (* 1971, he has two children with her). In 1993 he married Hilda Keenan Wynn, daughter of Keenan Wynn . In 2005 Paul Williams married his wife Mariana.

Williams' son Cole (* 1981) is also an actor. Like Paul, his brother, Mentor Williams, is a songwriter.
