Sergio Amaury Ponce (born August 13, 1981 in Tepic , Nayarit ) is a Mexican football player who acts in midfield .

Life

Ponce began his professional career in the 2000/01 season with Atlético Mexiquense , a branch team of Deportivo Toluca FC playing in the second division at the time , for which he was in the following 2001/02 season on August 11, 2001 against Monterrey (1-1) Made debut in the top division .

Ponce celebrated his first goal on November 25, 2001 in an away game at the UNAM Pumas , which brought about the final score of 1: 1. Ponce, who was only substituted on in the 69th minute, turned out to be a real wild card in this game , who was able to complete successfully in the 74th minute.

Ponce stayed with Toluca until the end of 2008 and won three championship titles and the CONCACAF Champions' Cup with his team . He played his last game for Toluca in the final of the Mexican soccer championship Apertura 2008 against Cruz Azul .

An interesting side note deserves the fact that Ponce didn't even see the red card in the seven and a half years he was under contract with Toluca , which was to change later. During his year-long stint at Chivas Guadalajara , he was sent off twice (in the 0-0 draw against Puebla on May 2, 2009 as well as in the 3-1 defeat by his next club UANL Tigres on August 1, 2009). He suffered his third dismissal on October 16, 2010 in the jersey of San Luis FC against his future club Querétaro (3-2).

National team

In the second quarter of 2008, Ponce played two friendly matches for the Mexican national team : on April 16 against China (1-0) and on June 4 against Argentina (1: 4).

He was also a member of the 2004 Olympic squad of the Mexican soccer team .
