Career
David Longstaff began his career as a hockey player with the Whitley Warriors in his hometown, for which he played as a 15-year-old in the British Hockey League , the top British division at the time. After the first match days of the 1995/96 season , he left his home club, which was now called Newcastle Warriors , and switched to league rivals Sheffield Steelers , for whom he played in the Ice Hockey Superleague , the top British league, from 1996 . With the Steelers he was British champion in 1996, 1997 and 2001 . In 1999, 2000 and 2001 he also won the Challenge Cup with the team. After these successes he was committed for the 2001/02 season by Djurgården Hockey from the Swedish Elitserien , the top division of the Scandinavian country.
In 2002 he returned to Great Britain and initially played for Manchester Storm in the Superleague. After just a few game days, however, he moved abroad again. This time the goal was Switzerland, where he played seven games at HC Sierre in the National League B. The second half of the season he spent with the Newcastle Vipers in the second-rate British National League , for which he should play until 2010 (from 2005 in the Elite Ice Hockey League ) and whose team captain he was from 2007. With the Vipers he first won the Findus Cup in 2003 and 2004 and the playoffs there in the first season of the EIHL 2006. In 2005 he was elected to the BNL All Star Team. After his time in Newcastle, he moved to the Guildford Flames in the second-rate English Premier Ice Hockey League and also acted there as team captain. With the team from Surrey he was able to win the main round of the EPIHL in 2012 and 2013, the playoffs in 2011 and the English Premier Cup in 2012 . In 2012, when he was the league's best goal-maker, he was elected to the EPIHL's second all-star team, and a year later he even made it to the first-all-star team. In 2015, after 20 years, he returned to his home club, for which he is now active as a player- coach in the third-rate National Ice Hockey League .
