The Newcastle Vipers were an ice hockey club in the city of Newcastle upon Tyne in England . You played in the British Elite Ice Hockey League from 2002 to 2011 . The games were played at the Metro Radio Arena and later at the Whitley Bay Ice Rink .
history
The Newcastle Vipers replaced the Newcastle Jesters , founded in 1999, as a professional ice hockey team after a year without professional ice hockey in Newcastle. After three seasons in the British National League , the Vipers switched to the Elite Ice Hockey League for the 2005/06 season . After a second place after the main round, the Vipers became playoff champions directly after the play-offs in their first season. They beat the Sheffield Steelers in the final .
On May 6, 2011, the team was disbanded after ongoing financial difficulties.
