mode
In the regular season, each of the eight teams played a total of 42 games. The first place became British Champion. All eight teams qualified for the playoff intermediate round, in which they were divided into two groups of four teams each according to their placement in the regular season. There the teams met against each group opponent in the first and second leg, whereupon the first two places in each group qualified for the playoff semi-finals. For a win after regular time and after overtime each team received two points, for a draw and a defeat after overtime one point and for a defeat after normal time zero points.
The Newcastle Vipers and Edinburgh Capitals from the discontinued British National League also took part in the league. The London Racers withdrew during the season as the home ground , the Lee Valley Ice Center, was closed due to some deficiencies and the club could not find a new venue.
