The 1995/96 season was the 14th and final season of the British Hockey League , the highest British ice hockey league . The Sheffield Steelers became champions . For the 1996/97 season , the league was replaced by the Ice Hockey Superleague .

In the main round, each of the ten teams played a total of 36 games. The first place in the main round was champion. Each team received two points for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a defeat.
