Culture and sights

The rural, well-kept village has hardly any through traffic and is surrounded by stream valleys and forests. The small, essentially Romanesque chapel in the center of the village was built in the 12th century, changed after being destroyed in the Thirty Years War and completely renovated in 1927/28.

Several old half-timbered houses with a Lower Saxony character adorn the town center. The oldest house was built around 400 years ago; its barren crossbeam is adorned with carvings and inscriptions. The center of the village is the playground, the church and the village community center (the former school), a natural stone building with a light yellow extension. This is where cultural life takes place. The village community center is the meeting point for local associations.

Economy and Infrastructure

Helmscheid is more agricultural and is conveniently located about 8 km from the district town of Korbach. There are numerous jobs there. Korbach offers good shopping opportunities and ensures basic medical care. In addition, there is a weekly grocery cart, a rolling beverage shop and a baker's cart twice a week. There is a good public transport and AST taxi connection.
