Abaissé

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Abaissé [ abeˈse ] ( French: "lowered; degraded"), in the technical jargon of heraldry , denotes an object that has been shifted downwards compared to the normal position.

In German blazon texts, "humiliated" is used synonymously. A figure of a shield (let's take a bar or a diamond as an example ) that is closer to the lower edge of the shield than to the upper edge is called "lowered".

Entire structures such as rafters can also be lowered if their upper end no longer reaches the upper edge of the shield. The term is not used for vertical continuous structures, e.g. B. one would describe a post that does not reach the edge of the shield as "shortened at the top" or "topped off".

The opposite are "raised" objects, positioning outside the middle position to the side is called "shifted".
