Shield edge

As shield edge , also sign board or border , in which is Heraldry the natural boundary of the shield respectively. The shield edge must not be confused with the herald's image board or shield edge .

For a heraldic figure, touching the edge of the shield is of decisive importance. This becomes a herald image when touched. If they are not touched, the heraldist dismisses or floats. If the figure is described as abbreviated, the edge of the shield is not touched at any point.
