Yevgeny Vladimirovich Petrow ( Russian: Евгений Владимирович Петров ; born May 25, 1978 in Belove , Kemerovo Oblast ) is a Russian cyclist .

Career

After winning the bronze medal in the U23 time trial at the 1999 World Championships in Verona , Petrov won the time trial and the road race a year later in 2000 .

Then he got his first professional contract with Mapei-Quick Step in 2002. He was able to win a stage of the Tour de l'Ain , the overall ranking of the Tour de l'Avenir and the Russian time trial championship.

In the Tour de France 2005 he was not allowed to start the 10th stage because his hematocrit value was too high.

At the Giro d'Italia 2010 he reached the finish line in bad weather on the 11th stage, the longest of the 2010 edition, after L'Aquila in a large leading group around Carlos Sastre , Linus Gerdemann , Richie Porte and David Arroyo Main field and was able to win a stage of a three-week national tour from this group for the first time in his career.

In the course of the doping investigation by the Public Prosecutor of Padua at the end of 2014, he was suspected of having been a customer of the controversial sports medicine specialist Michele Ferrari .

After the end of the 2016 season, Petrov ended his career as an active. For the 2019 season he became the Sports Director of the Professional Continental Team Gazprom-RusVelo .
