David Arroyo Durán (born January 7, 1980 in Talavera de la Reina , Toledo province ) is a Spanish cyclist .
Career
David Arroyo began his professional career in 2001 with the Spanish team ONCE-Eroski , for which he competed until 2003. After a year-long stint at LA-Pecol , he had been under contract with the Spanish ProTeam Caisse d'Epargne since 2005 . Since then, his main focus has been on the three-week country tours Giro , Tour and Vuelta , all of which he has already done several times. In 2006 he made a major contribution to the overall victory of his team-mate Óscar Pereiro at the time. Arroyo achieved his greatest personal success up to that point a year later when, as captain of his team, he finished tenth in the overall ranking of the Giro d'Italia . The Spaniard was able to improve this result three years later. On the 14th stage of the 2010 Giro , he won the pink jersey from the Tasmanian Richie Porte and only lost it to the overall winner Ivan Basso on the penultimate mountain stage to Aprica, despite a great descent . In the overall standings, David Arroyo surprisingly finished second overall as an outsider. However, after he was not used by his team Movistar in any of the three major country tours in 2012, he switched to the Caja Rural team at the end of the year .
