Belowo ( Russian Бело́во ) is a city in the Russian Oblast Kemerovo ( Western Siberia ) with 76,764 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The city is located in the west of the central part of the Kuzbass , about 150 km south of the Oblast capital Kemerovo , on the Batschat River , a tributary of the Inja . The climate is continental.
The city Belovo is the administrative center of the same name Rajons Belovo but itself belongs not to Rajon, but forms a separate urban district. In addition to the city, the urban district includes four urban-type settlements and two villages, so that the total population of the urban district Belowo is 134,512. The urban-type settlements are:
- Batschatsky (14,402)
- Gramoteino (12,996)
- Inskoi (12,590)
- Novy Gorodok (15,750)
The Krasnobrodski settlement, which has belonged to Belovo since 1953 , was spun off into an independent urban district in 2006.
history
A village named Belovo was first mentioned in 1726, named after the fled serf Fjodor Below, who settled here on the banks of the Batschat. In 1855 coal mining began. In 1938 the place received city rights.

Economy and Infrastructure
Belowo is one of the industrial centers of the Kuzbass with hard coal industry, mechanical engineering, building materials industry. The Belovo thermal power station ( Беловская ГРЭС ) is located near Inskoi .
The city is on the Novosibirsk - (or Kemerovo -) Novokuznetsk railway line . A branch line branches off here to Guryevsk and Salair .
