geography

The settlement on the western edge of the Kuznetsk Basin (Kuzbass), east of the Salair ridge , about 60 kilometers (as the crow flies) southwest of the Oblast capital Kemerovo , on the left bank of the Ob tributary Inja , into which the Kamysla river flows.

history

The place was formed in the 18th century by resettlers from the European part of Russia. At first he named himself after the river Kamysla (from Turkish language kamys , also Russian kamysch for ledges ). Already in the 18th and 19th centuries the hydronym Promyschlennaja was used, from the Russian obsolete promyschljat for business , here in relation to fishing.

In 1934 the railway line from the Ob station west of Novosibirsk on the Trans-Siberian Railway into the Kuzbass passed through the town. On October 16, 1936, it received the status of an urban-type settlement under its current name. As part of the industrialization of the Soviet Union, with one of its main areas in the nearby Kussbass, the old name was reinterpreted according to the meaning of the word promyschlennost in modern Russian - industry .
