Topki ( Russian Топки ) is a city in Kemerovo Oblast ( Russia ) with 28,641 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The city is located in the northern part of the Kuzbass , about 35 km southwest of the oblast capital Kemerovo . The climate is continental.

The city of Topki is the administrative center of the Rajon of the same name .

Topki is located on the railway line opened on this section in 1915 from Jurga on the Trans-Siberian Railway via Leninsk-Kuznetsky (until 1925 Kolchugino) to Novokuznetsk . A branch line to Kemerovo, also opened in 1915, branches off here. The M53 trunk road passes the city north.

history

Topki was created in 1914 when the railway lines from Jurga to Kolchugino (now Leninsk-Kuznetsky) and Kemerovo were built. The name is derived from a designation for swamps or generally places where you can sink into the regional dialect of Russian (cf. топкий = swampy, swampy). In 1929 the area around the train station became an urban-type settlement , and in 1933 it was granted city rights. At first the city was part of the Rajon, since 1963 it is directly subordinate to the Oblast.
