Davide Martinelli (born March 31, 1993 in Brescia ) is an Italian racing cyclist . He is a son of the sports director Giuseppe Martinelli .
Athletic career
In 2011 Martinelli became the Italian junior champion in the single pursuit . A year later he was third in the elite championship in this discipline. Martinelli then drove as a stagiaire for the UCI ProTeam Sky ProCycling . In 2013 he became the Italian U23 champion in the individual time trial and was able to repeat this success over the next two years.
He received his first regular contract with a cycling team in the first category in 2016 with Etixx-Quick Step . For this team he won the second stage of the Tour Cycliste International La Provence in his first year in the sprint and thus his first international road bike race as well as the first stage of the Tour of Poland in 2016 and thus his first race of the UCI WorldTour . In 2018 he and his team Quick-Step Floors won the Hammer Sportzone Limburg and the team time trial of the Adriatica Ionica Race . That year he was part of the Deceuninck-Quick-Step team , which won the Hammer Limburg . At the European Championships he won the bronze medal with the Italian team in the first mixed relay .
When cycling races were canceled from spring 2020 during the corona pandemic , Martinelli supplied the residents of his home town of Lodetto (1500 inhabitants) with food and medication by bike.
