Adolf Heeb

Adolf Heeb (born July 11, 1940 in Ruggell ) is a former Liechtenstein cyclist and politician of the Fatherland Union (VU).

education and profession

Heeb grew up with two brothers and two sisters in Ruggell. He attended elementary school and secondary school. In 1956 he began an apprenticeship as a machine draftsman at Hoval , which he completed in 1960. In addition to his work for Hoval, he attended ETH Zurich , where he continued his training in thermodynamics , and completed a commercial apprenticeship. In the further course of his career he became test bench manager in the laboratory technology area. In 1982 Heeb took over the technical management of the development department at Hoval.

From 1981 to 1985 he was a member of the Second Senate of the Supreme Court. In 1985 he became a member of the Board of Directors of the Liechtenstein Gas Supply .

Heeb has been married since 1965. The marriage produced a daughter and a son.

Athletic career

Adolf Heeb began active cycling in 1958. At the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome , Heeb was a member of the Liechtenstein delegation consisting of five athletes, as well as two marksmen and two athletes . At the Tour of Austria in 1961, he was stage winner and gold jersey holder. In 1962 he took part in the Tour de l'Avenir , was a three-time stage winner and was Best Climber . At the UCI Road World Championships , which also took place in 1962 , he finished in 15th place. In 1963 he took part in the Tour de Suisse . 1964 took place a renewed participation in the Tour de l'Avenir part. At the end of the 1964 season, Heeb, active since 1958, surprisingly ended his sporting career. During his career he achieved a total of 75 victories.

From 1979 to 1988 he was President of the Liechtenstein Cyclists Association.

Political activities

Heeb was politically active in VU. When the party's youth organization, the Youth Union (JU), was founded in the mid-1960s , Heeb, who was one of the founding members, became the JU's first president in 1967. He held this office until 1973. From 1974 to 1978 he sat for VU as a deputy member of the state parliament of the Principality of Liechtenstein . After the poor performance of VU in the state elections in 2005, party president Heinz Frommelt resigned from his office and Heeb was elected as his successor. During his presidency, among other things, the youth union was renewed. At the party the VU on 26 September 2011 in Balzers was Jakob Büchel elected his successor.

Awards

On December 2, 2005, Heeb received, along with Roman Hermann , the government's golden laurel leaf for special services to sport in Liechtenstein . For his services to the State of Liechtenstein, Prince Hans-Adam II awarded him the Commander's Cross of the Princely Liechtenstein Order of Merit on December 2, 2011 .
