Saul Raisin

Saul Raisin (born January 6, 1983 in Dalton , Georgia ) is a retired American cyclist .

Saul Raisin began his professional career in 2005 with the French ProTeam Crédit Agricole after he drove for the Espoirs ( men U23 ) of Crédit Agricole in 2004 . At the Tour de Langkawi 2006 he won the third stage.

On April 4, 2006, Raisin had a serious fall in Saint-Mars-la-Jaille during the first stage of the Tour of the Sarthe and was admitted to the intensive care unit at Angers hospital. On April 6th, his life was in danger, and he fell into a coma , from which he only woke up a week later after a blood clot had been removed from his head. It was the third serious fall in his cycling career. On August 8, 2006, he resumed training on the street, although he was initially paralyzed on one side and feared that he would not recover.

In 2007 Raisin started in the US time trial championship. After further health tests, however, the doctors advised him not to participate in cycling races. At the end of the 2008 season, Raisin ended his career.

Based on his own experience, Raisin set up the Raisin Hope Foundation to help people with brain injuries. In 2011 he published the book Tour de Life .
