Yvon Madiot

Yvon Madiot (born June 21, 1962 in Renazé ) is a former French cyclist and national champion in cycling .

Athletic career

In 1983, at the age of 21, Madiot already drove the International Peace Tour and the Tour de l'Avenir in one season. In the peace run he won the 10th stage and was 62nd in the overall ranking. He finished the Tour de l'Avenir in fifth. In September of that year he became a professional driver with the Renault-Elf team , which was led by Cyrille Guimard . With the victory at the Grand Prix Cannes at the beginning of the season 1984 he had a successful debut with the professionals . In July he drove his first Tour de France , which he finished in 46th. In total, he started the tour nine times, with 10th place in 1986 being his best placement. In 1984 and 1986 he was able to win a stage in the team time trial. In 1984 he also won his first French championship title when he won the championship in cyclo-cross racing . A year later he defended the title. Further podium places followed in the next few years. In 1987 he became a master again. From 1980 to 1989 Madiot started regularly at the UCI World Championships in cyclo-cross racing; He could not win a medal, his best result was 10th place in 1988, where he drove to the end of all races. In 1986 he succeeded in winning the French championship title in road racing . The Critérium International won Madiot 1985. Three times he competed in the Vuelta a España ; his best placement was 8th in 1987 .

After his career he became sporting director in the French team FDJ , later Groupama-FDJ .

Familiar

Madiot is the brother of Marc Madiot , who was also active as a cyclist. In their hometown, the local cycling stadium was named after them in 2014.
