Town twinning

Culture and sights

The slate industry experienced an upswing in the 19th century. The slate covering found widespread use due to the simplified transport by rail. In Renazé, the slate was increasingly extracted underground. In 1857 there were around 400 ardoisiers ('slate workers ') in the community , in 1920 there were around 1,500. In the 1970s, slate sales stagnated, the last mine closed in 1975. In 1979, a slate museum was founded at this mine in Longchamps.

Renazé belongs to the Roman Catholic parish of Sainte Thérèse Cardinal Suhard of the Laval diocese . The original church was built in the 15th century. In 1858 it was just a ruin. Since the church had become too small for the growing congregation, it was decided in 1859 to build a new church. The church was consecrated in 1863 . As early as 1867 the stone of the church tower began to crumble. In 1897 the church was renovated. On October 19, 1980, a roof beam fell off the choir . The church was then torn down and a new church built, which was consecrated on January 30, 1983. The altar , a slate block weighing 750 kilograms on a plexiglass base , contains relics of Saints Cornelius and Constantine.

The Renazé hospital is home to what is currently the only listed building as a monument historique . It is a bell that was cast in 1766.
