Château-Gontier-sur-Mayenne is a French municipality with 16,776 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Mayenne in the region Pays de la Loire . It is the capital of the arrondissement of Château-Gontier and belongs to the cantons of Château-Gontier and Azé .
It was created as Commune nouvelle with effect from January 1, 2019 through the amalgamation of the previous municipalities of Château-Gontier , Azé and Saint-Fort , which have the status of a Commune déléguée in the new municipality . The administrative headquarters are in Château-Gontier.

geography
The municipality is located around 28 kilometers south of Laval . The Mayenne River crosses the municipality. Neighboring communities are: La Roche-Neuville and Fromentières in the north, Gennes-Longuefuye in the north-east, Châtelain in the east, Coudray in the south-east, Ménil in the south, Chemazé in the south-west, Prée-d'Anjou in the west, and Marigné-Peuton in the north-west.
