Georges Claes (born January 7, 1920 in Boutersem , † March 14, 1994 in Leuven ) was a Belgian cyclist .

Georges Claes was a professional athlete from 1939 to 1953 , with a brief interruption due to the war. In 1942 he finished second in the Tour of Flanders and in 1943 Belgian runner-up on the road. His greatest successes were victories in two consecutive years - 1947 and 1948 - at Paris – Roubaix . Otherwise, he presented himself quite successfully, especially in terms of local criteria .

After Claes' victory at Paris-Roubaix in 1947, Der Spiegel wrote : “ Georges Claes, a Belgian cyclist, won the cycle race from Paris to Roubaix. The frame of his bike broke 50 km before the finish. A spectator provided him with a women's bicycle with which he could still save the victory. It took him just under 6 hours, 300 g of sugar and 7 bananas for the 246 km route. "
