Life

Rashid Behbudov was born in 1915 in Tbilisi, Georgia , which was then part of the Russian Empire . His father, Majid Behbudov, was also a singer. Between 1938 and 1944 Rashid worked for the Yerevan State Philharmonic and the local opera. In 1945 Behbudov moved to Baku at the invitation of Tofig Guliyev , where he got the leading role Asgar in the film "Arshin Mal Alan", which was directed by Üzeyir Hacıbəyov . His role in this film made him and his vocal skills known throughout Azerbaijan and brought him fame.

In no time at all, Behbudov became a celebrated Azerbaijani pop singer of his day. His musical works ranged from classical performances to lyrical songs. Behbudov's vocal talent enabled him to travel beyond the " Iron Curtain " of the Soviet Union as a musician , traveling to several countries in Europe , Asia and Latin America (including Iran , Turkey , China , India , Japan and Argentina ).

In 1966 he founded the State Song Theater, which is named after him today, and worked there as a soloist and art director.
