Uzeyir Əbdul Hüseyn oğlu Hacıbəyov ( Russian Узеир Абдул-Гусейн оглы Гаджибеков / عزیر حاجیبیوو / Useir Abdul-Gussein ogly Gadschibekow ; born September 5, jul. / 17th September  1885 greg. In Aghjabadi District ; † 23. November 1948 in Baku ) was an Soviet and Azerbaijani composer , musicologist , publicist, dramaturge and educator. He is considered the founder of modern Azerbaijani music and opera and is the composer of the first opera in the Islamic Orient.

This opera, Leyli va Majnun ( Leyli və Məcnun ) was premiered on January 25, 1908 in Baku in the theater of the Azerbaijani millionaire and benefactor Hacı Zeynəlabdin Tağıyev . Hacıbəyov also wrote the following other operas: Scheykh Sanan ( Şeyx Sən'an , 1909), Rüstam va Söhrab (1910), Shah Abbas va Khurschid banu ( Şah Abbas və Xurşid banu , 1912), Asli va Karam (1912, an adaptation of the History of Kerem and Asli ), Harun va Leyla (1915) and Köroglu (1937); for the last he received the Stalin Prize in 1941 .

Hacıbəyov is the founder of the Azerbaijani musical comedy ( If not that, then this one , 1910; Arshin mal alan , 1913 and others). The latter was translated into Russian, English, German, Chinese, Arabic, Persian, Polish, Ukrainian, Belarusian, Georgian and other languages ​​and was filmed in 1917, 1945 (this variant was one of the most popular films in the USSR) and 1965. Hacıbəyov received his musical training in Saint Petersburg and Moscow . He founded a music school in Baku, which was named after him as a conservatory in 1949, a folk instrument orchestra and a symphony orchestra. In addition to his operas, he wrote two overtures , chamber music works, piano pieces, cantatas , songs and mass choirs. In 1945 he composed the Azerbaijani national anthem. In addition, he also emerged as an author of music theoretical works.

In 1982 films about Üzeyir Hacıbəyov ( Üzeyir Hacıbəyov and Uzun ömrün akkordları , directed by Anar ) were produced.

Hacıbəyov wrote both the melody of the Azerbaijani SSR anthem and that of today's Azerbaijani national anthem .
