The all-knowing garbage dump ( English all-knowing, all-seeing Trash Heap ) is a doll invented by Jim Henson from the television series The Fraggles . She bears the name Marjorie .

Character description

The omniscient garbage dump lives in the woods behind the castle of the Gorgs , the opponents of the Fraggles. Marjorie is a compost heap consisting of potato peels, grass, grapefruits and tins, among other things . This compost heap was mysteriously brought to life one day and serves as an oracle for the Fraggles when they run into problems. Marjorie has some magical abilities, e.g. B. telepathy and teleportation . She occasionally looks at the Fraggles through stemmed glasses . Marjorie knits . While she has a Yiddish accent in the original English version , she speaks without an accent in the German version. The sex Marjories changes twice in the course of the series in the course of relocating the garbage dump.

Marjorie has two rat-like sidekicks : Gunge and Philo , who also act as representatives and interpreters of the sayings of the All-Knowing Garbage Dump. Gunge and Philo are even allowed to use their first name “Marjorie”, which no one else is allowed to do. If the two rats say "The garbage dump has spoken!", The consultation time for supplicants is over. Occasionally Marjorie is decorated with trash jewelry by Gunge and Philo.

Marjorie's costume was designed by Michael K. Frith and designed by Jane Gootnick and Maria McNamara. Marjorie was played by Jerry Nelson .

Metaphorical use

Within the network culture , the Internet in general and search engines such as Google or Wikipedia are also referred to as the “omniscient garbage dump” with an ironically critical undertone .
