from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Vuelta a Chihuahua Internacional is a cycling race in the Mexican province of Chihuahua .

The stage race has been held since its introduction in 2006 in mid-October. Within the one week that the tour lasts, six to seven stages with a total length of around 1,000 kilometers are completed. So far, the start and finish have always been in one of the region's major cities, Chihuahua or Ciudad Juárez . A special feature of the tour is that one of the stages is held in one of the two cities as a criterion .

Since its inception, the Vuelta a Chihuahua has been part of the UCI America Tour and is now classified as UCI Category 2.1. As the scoring period for this racing series begins at the beginning of October of the previous year, the tour is one of the first races in the series to take place year after year. Only the Clásico Ciclístico Banfoandes was held in the last two events of the UCI America Tour before or at the same time.

The stage race will also be part of the UCI America Tour in the 2008/09 season . For the first time, a time trial in the form of an individual time trial will be part of the tour program. In addition, the tour has been upgraded to category 2.1 by the UCI , the world cycling association, to promote cycling in Mexico .

In 2010 the race was held as a criterion and in 2011 it was independent of the UCI.
