Tumubao ( Chinese  土木 堡 , Pinyin Tǔmù bǎo ) is a defensive structure of the Great Wall of China in Huailai County in Zhangjiakou City in Hebei , which was built as one of three great fortress structures during the Ming Dynasty .

Tumubao is located in the wall section between Juyongguan and Datong and was part of the defense system of the Great Wall. The fortress is located about 10 kilometers from the city of Huailai. It is about 1,000 m long, 500 m wide and its walls are more than 6 m high. The southern and western walls of the fortress still exist today. Originally, the masonry consisted of tamped earth with brick cladding, which is hardly preserved today.

In the Ming Dynasty , Tumubao was built together with Yulinbao (榆林 堡) and Jimingyi (鸡鸣 驿, also Jimingyi cheng 鸡鸣 驿 城) in the north of Beijing to protect the capital. In 1449 the Ming army at Tumubao was defeated during the Tumu crisis .
