Rock Racing is a former American cycling team .

history

The team was founded in 2007 and, with its leader Allen Bean, participated as a Continental team in the UCI Continental Circuits, preferring to take part in American races. The team was equipped with De Rosa bikes . The sponsor was the fashion brand Rock & Republic of multimillionaire Michael Ball. The team had an exclusive contract with Cadillac and used its Escalade model as a team vehicle. The sporting directors were Rudy Pevenage , Laurenzo Lapage and Gary Hanson. Pevenage and Lapage left the team at the end of 2009 due to a lack of salary payments; Lapage switched to the Kazakh " Team Astana ".

The team has been criticized several times because of the doping past of its members. Both Rudy Pevenage and the drivers Tyler Hamilton , José Enrique Gutiérrez , Francisco Mancebo , Santiago Botero and Óscar Sevilla were customers of the "doping doctor" Eufemiano Fuentes or, as in the case of Tyler Hamilton, were convicted of doping. Rudy Pevenage, however, distanced himself from the mistakes of the past on behalf of his drivers. Still, Tyler Hamilton tested positive again in April 2009.

In addition to the doping affairs of its members, which gave the team a bad boy image, Rock Racing stood by the spectacular engagement of 2002 road cycling world champion Mario Cipollini, who retired from professional cycling in 2005, as team advisor and driver in personal union in January 2008, which ended just a few weeks later after differences of opinion, in the headlines.

In February 2010 it became known that the UCI team had not received a Continental license for the current year. Owner Michael Ball then stated that the team should continue to exist as a nationally registered team.
