Bart De Clercq (born August 26, 1986 in Zottegem ) is a Belgian cyclist .
Athletic career
Bart De Clercq began athletics as a teenager and was an excellent long-distance runner. Because of a protracted shin injury, he turned to cycling three years later, which he had been doing in a cycling tourist club for several years. In 2008 he made his debut in the men's U23 class. In 2009 he finished second in the overall ranking of the Tour de Namur . In 2010 he won the Tour de Moselle and finished fifth in the overall ranking of the Giro della Valle d'Aosta .
In 2011, Bart De Clercq became a professional with the Omega Pharma Lotto team . At the Giro d'Italia in the same year he won the mountain finish of the seventh stage to Montevergine di Mercogliano with an attack seven kilometers from the finish, saved his victory at the finish a few centimeters from the pursuing favorites and temporarily won the green jersey of the Leaders in the mountain classification .
In 2015 De Clercq won a stage of the Tour of Poland , and in 2016 the mountain classification of the Tour de l'Ain .
In January 2018, Bart De Clercq broke his hip in a fall during a training ride . He then had to undergo several operations and could not contest races for a whole year. In February 2019 he started the first race after this long break with an artificial hip and finished 47th in the overall ranking of the Tour of Oman .
