Rachel Pollack

Rachel Grace Pollack (* 1945 in Brooklyn , New York , USA ) is an American science fiction and - esotericism - author and comic -book-illustrator.

She studied English at New York University (Bachelor) and Claremont Graduate University (Master) and taught English at the State University of New York .

She is best known for her books on the tarot . She is considered an expert in tarot circles and her book 78 Levels of Wisdom enjoys a certain reference status. It is not only a divination guide , but also a description of the Major Arcana as a kind of initiation path or a path to enlightenment . She was inspired by the ideas of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn , which she takes up again and again in the book, for example in the analogy of the Major Arcana to the Kabbalah tree of life .

In 1990 she published a description and interpretation including divination instructions of the tarot set, which was designed by the German artist Hermann Haindl .

In 1997 she received the World Fantasy Award for her fantasy book Godmother Night (German: "Patentante Nacht"). In the book, Grimm's fairy tales are woven into a story about two women and their daughter. Death is portrayed as Mother Night , a middle-aged lady.
