from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gwyneth Ann Jones (born February 14, 1952 in Manchester , England) is an English science fiction and fantasy writer , literary critic and author of books for children and young people . She also writes under the pseudonym Ann Halam .

Biography and career as a writer

After attending a convent school, she obtained her bachelor's degree in European history of ideas from the University of Sussex . She has been writing for younger readers since 1980 under the pseudonym Ann Halam . She has published more than twenty novels under this name.

In 1984 she published her first adult science fiction novel under her own name, Divine Endurance . She also continues to write for the respective target groups under these two names. Her work has received numerous prizes: the World Fantasy Award , British Science Fiction Association Award , Children of the Night Award from the Dracula Society , the Arthur C. Clarke Award , the Philip K. Dick Award and the James Tiptree, Jr. Award . Without this being a focus of her work, the feminist components contained in her science fiction works lead to comparisons with Ursula K. Le Guin - although there are more differences in content and style.

Despite the quality of her literary works and the wide range of awards, only a few texts by Gwyneth Jones are available in German translation.

Gwyneth Jones lives in Brighton , England with her husband and son .
