Ellen Ruth Kushner (born October 6, 1955 in Washington, DC ) is an American author of fantasy novels.

Life

Kushner grew up in Cleveland , Ohio . She lives in New York City with her partner Delia Sherman , whom she married in 1996. Kushner published her first fantasy novel Swordspoint in 1987 - at the same time the beginning of her Riverside trilogy. In 2002 the sequel The Fall of the Kings appeared (together with Delia Sherman). In July 2006, Kushner published the third part, The Privilege of the Sword , which was published by Small Beer Press . For this she received the Locus Award in 2007 . Kushner also wrote the novel Thomas the Rhymer , which won the World Fantasy Award and the Mythopoeic Award in 1991 . In 2008 she received the Japanese Sense of Gender Award for the translation of The Privilege of the Sword . In addition, Kushner wrote several short stories and poems in various anthologies and participated in The Borderland Series .

Kushner moderates the radio program Sound & Spirit , which is produced by the WGBH company in Boston. In 2002 Kushner released a CD in which she tells a Chanukkah story The Golden Dreydl . The music is accompanied by the Shirim Klezmer Orchestra . Kushner is a member of the Endicott Studio .
