Diana Wynne Jones
Diana Wynne Jones (born August 16, 1934 in London , † March 26, 2011 in Bristol ) was a British writer , best known for her fantasy novels for young people and adults.
Life
She grew up in Essex , where she had been evacuated during World War II , and studied at St Anne's College , Oxford from 1953 to 1956 . She attended lectures by CS Lewis and JRR Tolkien . First she emerged as a dramaturge and was able to have three plays on London stages from 1967-1970. In 1970 she made her debut as a book author. From 1976 she lived in Bristol . Jones was married to John Burrow, an emeritus professor of English from the University of Bristol.
In the early summer of 2009, Jones was diagnosed with lung cancer. She underwent an operation and subsequent chemotherapy, which she discontinued in 2010 for health reasons. She died on March 26, 2011. She left her husband, three sons and five grandchildren.
