William Kotzwinkle

William Kotzwinkle (born November 22, 1943 in Scranton , Pennsylvania ) is an American writer.

Life

Kotzwinkle attended Rider College in New Jersey and Pennsylvania State University . After various jobs, he began writing in 1968 and has since received several literary awards. In 1970 he married the writer Elizabeth Gundy and moved with her to New Brunswick , Canada . They have lived on the Maine coast since 1983 .

Kotzwinkle is the author of fantastically bizarre stories. He received the World Fantasy Award in 1977 for the Roman Doctor Rat (German: Dr. Ratte ), which tells of the revolt of the animals that have become intelligent against humans from the perspective of an aging laboratory rat .

Kotzwinkle became known to a wider audience as the author of the novel adaptation of the movie ET - The Extra Terrestrial (based on the screenplay by Melissa Mathison ), which had a circulation of over 3 million. Based on a story by Steven Spielberg , Kotzwinkle wrote a sequel, ET: The Book of the Green Planet , which takes place on the home planet of the alien main character. He also wrote a novel version of Superman III and the script for the horror film Nightmare on Elm Street 4 (1988). Kotzwinkle is also the author of numerous children's books, including his first book, The Fireman (1969).

Most of Kotzwinkel's novels have been translated into German. His comic novel Fan Man reached a circulation of 100,000 copies in paperback.
