Ellen Sue Datlow (* 31 December 1949 in New York City ) is an American horror - fantasy - and science fiction - editor . She has received numerous awards for her work as editor.

career

Ellen Datlow was the editor of the magazines Omni and Omni Online from 1981 to 1998 and was also the editor of the annual anthologies during this time. For 21 years, from 1988 to 2008, she was editor of the series Year's Best Fantasy and Horror , until 2003 with Terri Windling , then together with Gavin Grant and Kelly Link until the series was discontinued in 2009.

Datlow has been editor of The Best Horror of the Year anthologies at Night Shade Books since 2009 . In addition to the anthology series, she has also published several dozen individual anthologies, some of them in collaboration with Terri Windling.

From 1998 to 1999 she was the editor of the webzine Event Horizon: Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror and editor of the Hugo Award winning website Sci Fiction until it was closed in 2005. Datlow is currently editor and proofreader for Tor.com . Since 2000 she has hosted Fantastic Fiction , a series of monthly readings by young authors of speculative literature at the KGB literary bar in New York , with Matthew Kressel . She is a longtime member of the Horror Writers Association and has been a board member since 2006.

Datlow has won numerous awards for her work, many of them multiple times. She won the Hugo Award nine times, the Bram Stoker Award five times, the World Fantasy Award ten times , the International Horror Guild Award twice , the Shirley Jackson Award three times and the Locus Award twelve times . In 2007 she received the Karl Edward Wagner Award at the British Fantasy Convention for “outstanding contributions to the genre” . In 2011 she was recognized by the Horror Writers Association for Lifetime Achievement.

In addition to her work as an editor, Datlow has written numerous essays and book reviews.
